Erik Lira joins AS Monaco from Cruz Azul

Mexican midfielder Erik Lira is set to join AS Monaco following a successful negotiation with Cruz Azul. The transfer, estimated at approximately 10 million euros including variables, was initially delayed due to Monaco's lack of an available non-EU player slot.

The deadlock was resolved after American striker Folarin Balogun reached an agreement to join Everton in the English Premier League. Balogun's departure freed the necessary registration space for Lira to join the Ligue 1 side.

Cruz Azul President Víctor Velázquez confirmed the sale, noting that the club supported Lira's ambition to play in Europe. Lira, 26, is expected to sign a contract lasting between four and five seasons, marking his first professional experience in European football.
