Erik Lira to join AS Monaco from Cruz Azul

Mexican midfielder Erik Lira is set to transfer from Cruz Azul to AS Monaco in France's Ligue 1. After weeks of negotiations, the clubs have reached an agreement for the 26-year-old's move to Europe.

The deal is valued at approximately 8 million euros in fixed fees, plus an additional 3 to 3.4 million euros in bonuses and variables. AS Monaco will acquire 80 percent of Lira's federative rights, while Cruz Azul will retain a 20 percent sell-on clause for future transfers. The contract is expected to span five seasons.

The finalization of the transfer depends on AS Monaco freeing up a non-EU player slot within their squad. Once an administrative vacancy is created, Lira is expected to travel to France for medical examinations and to sign the formal contract. Lira, who recently represented Mexico in the 2026 World Cup, has been a key figure for Cruz Azul since joining in 2022, winning multiple titles including Liga MX.
