Erik Lira Returns to Cruz Azul Ahead of Liga MX Apertura 2026

Midfielder Erik Lira, 26, rejoined Cruz Azul’s training camp at La Noria on 13 July after a standout World Cup 2026 for Mexico. The club confirmed he will be available for the opening match of the Apertura 2026 season against Atlético San Luis and is expected to feature regularly under coach Joel Huiqui.

While European clubs from Spain, England and the Netherlands have shown interest, no concrete transfer negotiations have been reported. Cruz Azul also noted the return of Colombian defender Willer Ditta, bolstering the squad ahead of the new campaign.
