Erik Solheim criticizes upcoming parliamentary Epstein hearing

Former Development Minister Erik Solheim has criticized the upcoming parliamentary control hearing regarding the Epstein case, describing it as an ‘absurd overreaction’ and a waste of resources. Solheim expressed concerns that the hearing could lead to increased bureaucracy within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reduce the capacity for peace diplomacy.

Public law professor Morten Walløe Tvedt has responded strongly to Solheim’s comments, characterizing them as an ‘untimely attack on the rule of law.’ Tvedt argued that Solheim’s criticism undermines a fundamental pillar of Norwegian democracy: the ability of the Storting (Parliament) to hold government ministers accountable for actions taken during their tenure. Tvedt expressed concern that such rhetoric might discourage members of Parliament from asking critical questions during the scheduled hearings.
