Erika Franchini pursues nursing career after leukemia battle

Erika Franchini, a 24-year-old leukemia survivor, is completing her nursing degree to give back to the medical community that treated her. Diagnosed with leukemia in 2016 at the age of 14, Franchini underwent intensive treatments, including chemotherapy and two transplants, one of which utilized bone marrow from her father.

Her recovery was aided by an experimental drug administered at the Bambin Gesù hospital in Rome under the direction of Professor Franco Locatelli. After years of battling the disease and the physical toll of treatment, Franchini chose to pursue a career in nursing at the same institution to support other children and families facing similar medical challenges.

In addition to her studies, Franchini remains active in karate, where she assists her instructor in training children aged 6 to 9. She expressed a desire to eventually hold a significant role in healthcare to help improve patient assistance.
