Erika Hilton breaks record as most voted woman in Brazil's Chamber of Deputies

In the 2026 Brazilian elections, Erika Hilton (PSOL) achieved a historic milestone by becoming the most voted woman in the history of the Chamber of Deputies, securing 1,596,472 votes in São Paulo. This result represents a more than sixfold increase from her 2022 vote count. Hilton's reelection occurred amidst security concerns, as she received a death threat and transphobic messages via Onion Mail on election morning, forcing her to delay voting until late afternoon.

Other notable election results in São Paulo include Eduarda Campopiano (PL), who became the most voted candidate for the State Legislative Assembly (Alesp) with 1,956,238 votes. Campopiano faces a complaint filed by Sofia Favero (PSOL) with the Public Ministry of São Paulo for alleged transphobia and political violence after referring to Hilton as a ‘biological man’ on social media. Additionally, 91-year-old Luiza Erundina (PSOL) made history as the oldest state deputy elected in the country, securing a seat in the Alesp.

The elections also showed increased representation for the transgender community, with several trans and travesti candidates elected to both federal and state legislative bodies.
