Utah court hears evidence in Charlie Kirk murder case

A five‑day preliminary hearing in Provo, Utah examined the September 10, 2025 killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Prosecutors presented surveillance video showing the accused, 23‑year‑old Tyler Robinson, on campus, DNA evidence linking Robinson to a towel‑wrapped rifle and a screwdriver, text messages in which Robinson admitted being at the event, and a handwritten note stating he had the opportunity to kill Kirk. Robinson’s former roommate and partner, Lance Twiggs, testified that Robinson expressed remorse the day after the shooting. The defense challenged the reliability of the DNA results and other forensic evidence, arguing the material could prejudice a future jury. Judge Tony Graf will decide by the September 1 hearing whether probable cause exists to move the case to trial, where Robinson faces aggravated murder charges and a possible death‑penalty sentence. Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, was allowed to view the surveillance video in the courtroom and has called for full transparency, citing concerns about conspiracy theories that have circulated online.
