Eğriköy Höyük excavations reveal ancient trade and mining links

Kayseri Governor Gökmen Çiçek visited the Eğriköy Höyük excavation site in the Yeşilhisar district to inspect ongoing archaeological research. The excavations are led by Professor Dr. Ekin Kozal from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University with authorization from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, supported by local municipalities and the Cappadocia Area Presidency.

The site is strategically significant due to its proximity to the Taurus Mountains, potentially serving as a link between the Kültepe-centered trade networks and the Cilician and Mediterranean regions. Researchers aim to clarify the settlement's economic role, specifically regarding its involvement in Bronze Age mining activities, as evidence of iron and copper usage has been identified.

Furthermore, the study focuses on two inscribed blocks discovered in the 1930s. These blocks feature Anatolian hieroglyphs dating back to the Iron Age. Analyzing these epigraphic finds is expected to provide new insights into the political, geopolitical, and cultural structures of the region during that period.
