Erin Andrews discusses lessons from cervical cancer diagnosis

Sports broadcaster Erin Andrews has shared details regarding her 2016 cervical cancer diagnosis to emphasize the importance of routine medical screenings and early detection.

Andrews was 38 years old when a routine gynecological exam revealed the cancer, despite her having no prior symptoms. She described the experience as being “floored, shocked, numb, inconsolable” upon receiving the news. Following an initial surgery that did not fully remove the cancer, Andrews noted the importance of seeking specialized care from an oncologist.

Despite the diagnosis, Andrews maintained her professional responsibilities, including traveling to cover an NFL game just three days after her first surgery. Health experts note that cervical cancer is largely preventable through regular Pap smears and human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, which can identify precancerous lesions before they become malignant.
