Erin Patterson sentenced to life imprisonment for poisoning in-laws

Erin Patterson has been sentenced to life imprisonment following a case involving the poisoning of her former in-laws and an aunt. The incident occurred in 2023 when Patterson served a Beef Wellington prepared with poisonous ‘Death Cap’ mushrooms.

During a two-day hearing in Melbourne, Patterson attempted to appeal her triple homicide conviction. Prosecutors argued for a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, describing the crimes as involving “betrayal” and representing the “most serious type of offense.”

The judge ruled that Patterson will be eligible for parole after serving 33 years, meaning she could be released at age 83. The decision to allow parole eligibility was influenced by the fact that a significant portion of her sentence would be spent in isolation due to the high profile of the case.
