Erion Textiles launches textile‑waste collection pilot in Turin
Erion Textiles, the consortium behind Italy’s Erion system for textile‑waste management, is rolling out the "Raccogli‑AMO" pilot in Turin starting in July 2026. The initiative follows a earlier pilot that began in Naples in May 2026 and expands the in‑store collection of used clothing.
Eleven Turin retailers – Zara, Elena Mirò, Kiabi, Decathlon, Upim, Terranova, Calliope and Rinascimento – will accept garments free of charge. The project, run with Amiat Gruppo Iren and Humana People to People Italia, will channel the collected items to authorised facilities for reuse, recycling, energy recovery or, where necessary, disposal. It also serves to test the forthcoming Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules for the fashion sector, slated for implementation across Italy by summer 2026.
Europe produces roughly 7 million tonnes of textile waste each year (about 16 kg per person). Only 28 % (≈1.95 million tonnes) is correctly sorted, while the remaining 72 % (≈5 million tonnes) ends up in landfill. The pilot aims to raise consumer awareness and improve sorting rates ahead of the EPR rollout.
