Berlin-Hamburg railway line closed for infrastructure repairs

The Berlin-Hamburg railway line is scheduled for another full closure overnight from Saturday to Sunday to address remaining infrastructure issues. Deutsche Bahn stated that the closure is necessary to perform optimizations and rectify “restmängel an der infrastruktur” (infrastructure deficiencies) following the major general renovation that took place between August 2025 and June 2026.

The closure is set to begin at 9:10 PM on Saturday and is expected to end by 11:00 AM on Sunday. While the timing was chosen to be outside of peak travel hours, passengers should expect significant disruptions. Long-distance and freight trains will be diverted, and regional services will be replaced by substitute bus services. Specific regional disruptions include the RE2 between Nauen and Falkensee, and the RE8 and RB10 services between Berlin Hauptbahnhof and Paulinenaue.

The previous renovation, which cost approximately 2.7 billion euros, was completed roughly 1.5 months behind schedule due to frost damage. Despite the recent reopening, some reports indicate that punctuality for long-distance trains has remained a challenge.
