Erkan Mumcu and Şamil Tayyar clash over 2007 election claims
Former minister Erkan Mumcu and former AKP lawmaker Şamil Tayyar have engaged in a heated dispute on social media regarding the 2007 presidential election in Turkey.
The conflict stems from resurfaced comments made by Mumcu, who previously suggested that Abdullah Gül and Bülent Arınç were part of a plot against Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Tayyar criticized Mumcu, accusing him of cooperating with military tutelage during the 2007 elections to obstruct the AKP candidate. Tayyar argued that Mumcu’s party, ANAP, boycotted the election, which he claims prevented Abdullah Gül from being elected in the first round.
Mumcu responded by challenging Tayyar to a live broadcast, stating he is prepared to present documents and witnesses to prove his claims and calling Tayyar a “turncoat.” The debate has drawn attention from various journalists and highlighted long-standing tensions within Turkish political history.
