Çerkezköy, Turkey wildfire spreads from hobby garden fire, threatens homes

A fire ignited in a hobby garden in Çerkezköy, Tekirdağ Province, was blown by strong winds into a nearby forested area. The blaze quickly expanded, affecting roughly 100 dunams of forest and reaching residential zones with single‑storey houses.

Firefighters from Çerkezköy and surrounding districts were dispatched, using water trucks, excavators and bulldozers to contain the flames. Local volunteers assisted with additional water tanks and tractors. The Çerkezköy Municipality’s environmental services also deployed equipment to halt the spread. Police and gendarmerie units opened an investigation into the fire’s cause.
