Erling Haaland adds mother’s surname to Norway jersey for 2026 World Cup

Norway’s star striker Erling Haaland will appear for the national team with the name “Braut Haaland” on his back, honouring his mother Gri Marita Braut. The change applies only to Norway matches, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and does not affect his club jersey.

Haaland, who wears the number 9, explained that adding his mother’s surname recognises the support of both parents – his mother, a former professional athlete, and his father Alf‑Inge Haaland, a former defender for Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Manchester City.
