Erling Haaland scores twice as Norway reaches World Cup round of 16

Norwegian striker Erling Haaland struck two goals in each of Norway’s opening matches at the 2026 World Cup – first against Iraq and then against Senegal – bringing his tournament tally to four. His goals helped Norway defeat Senegal 3‑2 in New York, securing a place in the round of 16 where they will face France.

Norway’s coach Ståle Solbakken praised Haaland’s impact, saying the Manchester City forward “burns” and that the team will try to give him more playing time. American analysts also highlighted Haaland’s unusually low off‑side record, noting he has been caught off‑side only five times in 35 Premier League matches this season, and that Norway and Germany are the only teams in the tournament not flagged for off‑side infringements so far.
