Erling Haaland to wear double surname on Norway’s 2026 World Cup jersey

Norwegian striker Erling Haaland will appear on the 2026 FIFA World Cup roster with the full name "Braut Haaland" on his national‑team shirt. The addition of his mother’s surname, Braut, follows a Norwegian tradition of using both parents’ surnames and was chosen by Haaland in August 2025. He will continue to wear only "Haaland" for his club Manchester City.

Ahead of Norway’s tournament opener, Haaland and several teammates attended the NHL Stanley Cup final in Raleigh, North Carolina, cheering the Carolina Hurricanes’ 4‑2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. The outing was highlighted on social media, showing the striker’s enthusiastic celebration of a hockey goal.

Norway, playing in Group I against France, Senegal and Iraq, is regarded as a secret favourite and will be making its first World Cup appearance since 1998.
