Ermelo and Hardenberg present 2027 municipal budgets
The municipalities of Ermelo and Hardenberg have presented their 2027 budgets, focusing on financial stability and local investment despite long-term fiscal challenges.
In Ermelo, the 2027 budget serves as a transition year following a new coalition agreement. The municipality aims to keep housing costs low, with property tax (OZB) increases limited to the expected 2.5% inflation. A €40 discount on waste collection fees will continue, and a new €1.5 million Village Fund (Dorpsfonds) will be established from reserves to support local community initiatives. While 2027 and 2029 show positive balances, temporary deficits are projected for 2028 and 2030, which the municipality intends to address through further financial planning.
Hardenberg has presented a balanced budget for 2027, though it faces a one-time deficit of €5.9 million to be covered by general reserves. The municipality plans to continue investing in local community centers, sports facilities, and education to support regional growth. However, Hardenberg faces potential annual deficits starting in 2028—ranging from €1.1 million to €4.2 million by 2030—due to rising expenditures and reduced national government funding. The local government is currently investigating ways to balance income and expenses to ensure long-term financial health.
