Ermelosche Heide implements temporary dog walking ban

A temporary ban on walking dogs has been implemented on a portion of the Ermelosche Heide starting August 15. The measure is intended to allow two new Maremmano Abruzzese livestock protection dogs to acclimate to their environment and the sheep flock without disturbance.

The dogs, which originated from Italy, are being trained to protect the flock from wolves. The restriction is expected to last approximately six months. While dogs remain welcome at the visitor center, the restricted area will be marked with signs, and authorities may issue fines for intentional violations.
