Ermua bypass project faces delays and increased costs

The citizen platform ‘Ermuko Saihesbidea – ¡Variante ya!’ is set to challenge the Ermua City Council during its municipal plenary session on September 29 regarding significant delays in the local bypass project.

According to the group, the completion of the infrastructure has been pushed back to at least 2032, two years later than the timeline previously promised by the PNV and PSOE. Specific issues include a two-year delay and a cost increase of over 260,000 euros for the Goitondo section project, as well as a one-year delay in starting the Urtia section.

The platform is also seeking clarity on the impact of heavy vehicle traffic within the municipality. They have raised concerns regarding reduced truck restriction hours, a lack of inspections and sanctions for speeding or improper cargo transport, and the status of a promised health study intended to measure the effects of heavy traffic on resident safety and well-being.
