Ernest Petry refuses to resign as Lika-Senj County Prefect

Ernest Petry, the Prefect of Lika-Senj County, has addressed recent public controversy regarding his conduct. Following the release of footage showing him out late at night, Petry issued an apology to the public and those offended, stating that such behavior was inappropriate for his office and will not be repeated.

Petry confirmed he has resigned from his position as the head of the local HDZ party organization but stated he has no intention of resigning as County Prefect. He defended his decision by citing his professional record, noting the completion of over 300 projects during his five-year tenure.

In addition to the personal scandal, Petry addressed the issue of approximately 37,000 tons of hazardous waste illegally dumped in the Gospić area. He noted that the county lacks its own communal police or inspectorate to manage such matters and mentioned that an investigation into the waste disposal has been initiated.
