Ernesto Herrera Reza arrested in Torreón amid Segalmex investigation

Ernesto Herrera Reza, an entrepreneur known as ‘El Güino’, was arrested in Torreón, Coahuila, during a joint operation involving the Mexican Army, National Guard, state, and municipal police. The arrest took place in a shopping center parking lot, where Herrera Reza was detained alongside two other individuals. Authorities reportedly recovered a firearm during the intervention, the legal status of which is under investigation.

Herrera Reza’s name has previously appeared in federal investigations related to Segalmex (Seguridad Alimentaria Mexicana), an agency that has faced scrutiny over the alleged misappropriation of public funds. His business ties include Comercializadora de Productos Lácteos de la Laguna (Coprolac), a company that reportedly signed multi-million dollar agreements with Liconsa during the administration of former Segalmex head Ignacio Ovalle.

While his name has been linked to these federal files since 2023, authorities noted that any criminal responsibility must be proven through judicial processes. Herrera Reza is also identified as a member of the family associated with the dairy producer Chilchota.
