Ernie Accorsi, longtime NFL executive and former Giants GM, dies at 84

Longtime NFL executive Ernie Accorsi has died at the age of 84. The New York Giants and Accorsi’s family announced his passing on Sunday, noting he died on Saturday while surrounded by loved ones.

Accorsi’s 37-year career in professional football included serving as general manager for the Baltimore Colts, the Cleveland Browns, and the New York Giants. During his tenure as Giants GM from 1998 to 2006, he was instrumental in building the foundation for the franchise’s championship success. His most notable achievements include hiring head coach Tom Coughlin and orchestrating the 2004 draft-day trade with the San Diego Chargers to acquire quarterback Eli Manning.

Although Accorsi retired before the Giants won Super Bowls XLII and XLVI, he received championship rings for those victories and was inducted into the Giants’ Ring of Honor in 2016.
