ERP software providers advance digitalization for SMEs
Developments in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software are focusing on accessibility and technological modernization for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The open-source system ERPNext offers a web-based solution for core business functions such as accounting, procurement, sales, and inventory management without per-user licensing fees. To meet German regulatory standards, the erpnext_germany extension has been introduced. This update supports standard charts of accounts (SKR03 and SKR04), provides interfaces for DATEV export, and complies with GoBD requirements for electronic record-keeping. It also includes automated verification for EU VAT identification numbers.
Simultaneously, Sage is modernizing its b7 ERP solution for production and trading companies. The update involves migrating the application core to modern Java technologies and expanding database support to include PostgreSQL alongside Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. Sage is also integrating the Sage Copilot AI assistant and expanding its REST APIs to transform the software into a more open platform that integrates more easily with external IT landscapes.
