Open Monumentendag 2026 to open historical sites across Belgium and the Netherlands

Open Monumentendag 2026 will see numerous historical sites across Belgium and the Netherlands open their doors to the public for free. The event focuses on themes of heritage and resilience.

In Belgium, Erpe-Mere will highlight the legacy of artist Herman De Somer through a 20-kilometer cycling route and garden tours. In Antwerp, the Sint-Pauluskerk will feature a restored church tower rooster and a time capsule project. Gistel will offer guided tours of unique locations such as the Ten Putte Abbey and local castle.

In the Netherlands, various regions are hosting specialized programs. The Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam will showcase the architectural transformation of the Santos warehouse. In Staphorst, Rouveen, and IJhorst, fifteen monuments will offer workshops and demonstrations of old crafts. Papendrecht and Beuningen will focus on local history, including the 1926 flood, while Stein will launch a cultural coloring book to engage younger generations. Raalte will also provide access to diverse sites including the Basilica of the Holy Cross Elevation and local synagogues.
