Errol Gulden offers to captain Sydney Swans after Callum Mills injury

Sydney Swans midfielder Errol Gulden has expressed his readiness to take over the captaincy following a severe injury to skipper Callum Mills. Mills suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a qualifying final win against Brisbane, an injury that may sideline him for the entire 2027 season.

Gulden, 24, indicated to AAP that he would welcome the opportunity to lead the team during their premiership bid. Coach Dean Cox has several other leadership options, including former co-captain Dane Rampe, veteran Jake Lloyd, James Rowbottom, and Tom Papley.

The leadership vacancy comes at a challenging time for the club. In addition to Mills' injury, vice-captain Isaac Heeney and four other players—Chad Warner, Nick Blakey, James Jordon, and Riley Bice—are serving club-imposed bans following a post-match incident in Melbourne.
