Portugal electricity prices to rise in 2027 regulated market

The Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) has proposed a 1.5% increase in low-voltage electricity prices for the regulated market in Portugal, effective January 2027. This adjustment follows a 2.7% increase implemented in October 2026. For consumers in the regulated market, the average annual price variation between 2026 and 2027 is expected to reach 3.7%.

Impacted households include approximately 780,000 customers in the regulated market. For example, a childless couple with standard consumption may see their monthly bill rise to 38.31 euros, while a couple with two children could see an increase to 99.01 euros.

Simultaneously, ERSE projects that the electricity sector's tariff debt will drop to 552 million euros in 2027, the lowest level since 2010. This reduction is intended to improve the sustainability of the national electricity system.

In response to energy volatility, the Portuguese Business Confederation (CIP) has urged the government to implement support measures for gas and electricity-intensive industries to prevent a loss of competitiveness. The government is currently reviewing these proposals.
