Ershui Ecological Conservation Station installs owl nest boxes
The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency's Nantou Branch partnered with the Taichung Wildlife Conservation Society and the De An Qi Zhi Care Center to host the Ershui Ecological Coexistence Camp in Changhua County on October 3-4.
During the event, participants installed artificial nest boxes designed to provide safe breeding habitats for oriental owls, a species that often struggles to find natural tree hollows in shallow mountain regions. The nest boxes were crafted from recycled domestic timber, specifically leftover cypress and acacia wood from forest thinning operations.
In addition to the installation, students from the De An Qi Zhi Care Center participated in ecological monitoring tasks, including the routine monthly maintenance of infrared automatic cameras by replacing batteries and memory cards.
