National Unity Party celebrates 51st anniversary in Northern Cyprus
The National Unity Party (UBP) celebrated its 51st anniversary with a reception in Nicosia, marking over half a century since its founding in 1975. Party leaders and former officials used the occasion to emphasize the party's historical role in the establishment and development of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Prime Minister and UBP Chairman Ünal Üstel called for political unity, urging members to move past internal grievances ahead of upcoming general and local elections. He highlighted recent infrastructure projects, including airport and hospital developments, and announced a target of 15,000 social housing units. He also noted the party's readiness to contest 18 municipalities in the local elections.
UBP Secretary General Ahmet Savaşan detailed the party's efforts to prepare for its centennial, including a vision and project workshop involving over 3,000 participants and 32 academic moderators. Former President Ersin Tatar and other party veterans also issued messages, characterizing the UBP as a foundational political force inextricably linked to the struggle and sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people.
