Alexander Zverev reaches ATP world number one ranking

German tennis player Alexander Zverev has secured the world number one ranking for the first time in his career. Following his victory over Tallon Griekspoor with a score of 6-4, 7-5 at the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna, Zverev mathematically guaranteed his ascent to the top of the ATP rankings.

The 29-year-old will officially assume the leadership position on Monday, November 2, 2026, displacing Jannik Sinner. Sinner, who has ended his season early due to a knee injury, held the top spot for 95 weeks. Zverev becomes the 30th player to reach number one since the ATP rankings were established in 1973 and the second German man to achieve the feat, following Boris Becker in 1991.

Zverev’s rise follows a career-best season in which he captured his first two Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros and the US Open. His next match in Vienna will be against Arthur Fery in the quarterfinals.
