ERT honors Giorgos Mazonakis with short film ‘On the Throne of Xerxes’

ERT is presenting a final tribute to singer Giorgos Mazonakis through the short film ‘On the Throne of Xerxes’ (Στον Θρόνο του Ξέρξη), directed by Evi Kalogiroupolou. The film is scheduled to be available on ERTFLIX on Friday, September 11, after 21:00.

Originally premiering at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival during the Critics' Week, where it received the Canal+ award, the film is set in a dystopian workplace environment within the Perama shipyards. The narrative follows Giorgos, an older worker and supervisor, exploring human relationships and sensory interactions within an Orwellian daily life where physical contact is restricted and visual observation dominates.

The title refers to a peak on Mount Aigaleo in the Perama municipality, traditionally believed to be the vantage point from which Xerxes observed the Battle of Salamis in 480 BC.
