ERT secures free-to-air rights for all 2026 World Cup matches

Greek public broadcaster ERT won exclusive broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will feature 48 teams and 104 matches hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States. The public broadcaster will show every match free of charge on its linear channels ERT1, ERT2 Sport and on the streaming platform ERTFLIX. The opening game, Mexico vs South Africa, is scheduled for 22:00 Greek time on 11 June 2026, with most other fixtures airing late night or early morning because of the North‑American time zone.

The launch broadcast drew a 29.1 % share of the viewing audience across both ERT1 and ERT2 Sport, placing the public broadcaster at the top of prime‑time ratings for the night. The report also listed viewership figures for other channels and programmes on the same evening, showing ERT ahead of commercial rivals such as Alpha. The high ratings underline the popularity of free, nationwide coverage of the tournament in Greece.
