ERT series ‘Megali Chimaira’ expands to international markets

The ERT international co-production ‘Megali Chimaira’ (The Great Chimera) is expanding into global markets following significant success in Greece. Based on the 1953 novel by M. Karagatsis, the series has secured broadcasting agreements with several international networks, including the Global Series Network (GSN) for Walter Presents in the United States, SBS in Australia, RAI in Italy, RTVE in Spain, RÚV in Iceland, and the HOT platform in Israel.

In Greece, the six-episode series became a major hit on ERTFLIX, accumulating over 5 million views. Set in the 1930s, the drama follows Marina, an Italian woman drawn to ancient Greek culture, who moves to Syros to start a new life after a relationship with a Greek shipowner. The narrative explores themes of freedom and personal tragedy as she becomes entangled with his brother.

The production features Fotini Peluso in the lead role, with Andreas Konstantinou and Dimitris Kitsos portraying the brothers. The series was directed by Vardis Marinakis, who was a nominee for Best Director at the Seoul International Drama Awards.
