ERT to launch documentary series on 120 years of Greek cinema

ERT is launching a new 12-episode documentary series titled ‘120 Years of Greek Cinema’ for the upcoming television season. Hosted by actors Christos Louli and Stefania Goulioti, the series traces the evolution of the seventh art in Greece from its origins to the present day.

Written by Nikos Aktypis and directed by Spyros Kopanitsas, the production utilizes rare archival footage, interviews, and historical film clips. The series covers various eras, including the silent film period, the establishment of Finos Film, the golden age of Greek commercial cinema, and the contemporary ‘weird wave’ movement. It aims to explore how cinema has acted as a mirror to Greek society and a vessel for collective memory.
