Ertzaintza seizes 52,000 illegal medication packs in Basque Country

The Basque police force (Ertzaintza) carried out a raid in Usurbil on 10 July that uncovered more than 52,000 envelopes of a prescription drug. The operation seized the packs from a van, a garage and a storage unit, immobilising two suspects – a 24‑year‑old of North‑African origin and a 54‑year‑old of Latin American origin – who were placed before the Donostia guard court. Investigators also found 22 cardboard boxes containing 72 blister packs each (31,680 envelopes) and an additional box of about 830 envelopes delivered by the local municipal police. The seizure appears linked to a Gipuzkoa pharmacy that has placed large orders of the same product over the past two years; its 41‑year‑old owner is being investigated as a possible supplier. The Ertzaintza continues to probe the source and distribution network of the medication.
