Erwin Durán reflects on leaving Deportes Copiapó

Football coach Erwin Durán has reflected on his departure from Deportes Copiapó prior to the 2021 promotion match. Following a victory against Deportes Temuco in the Primera B liguilla, the club was set to face a Primera División opponent in a promotion playoff.

Due to the disaffiliation of Deportes Melipilla, the opponent changed from Curicó Unido to Huachipato. Amidst the uncertainty surrounding the Melipilla case, Durán chose to leave Copiapó to join Deportes Puerto Montt before the decisive match against Huachipato, which ultimately secured the latter's stay in the top division.

Durán expressed self-criticism regarding the move, stating, “I am one of those who says you should never regret the decisions you make, but I feel it was a bad decision.” He noted that personal circumstances and the prolonged uncertainty of the situation influenced his choice to leave the club.
