Erzincan begins traditional rosehip harvest for marmalade production
The rosehip harvest has begun in Erzincan, where locals are gathering the fruit from mountainous terrain to produce traditional marmalade and jam. The harvesting process is labor-intensive, as villagers must navigate thorny branches using sticks to collect the berries individually.
Once collected, the rosehips undergo a multi-step preparation process. They are cleaned, boiled, and then crushed and passed through a sieve to remove seeds. The resulting pulp is cooked with only sugar and no additional additives to create a natural product.
Rosehips are highly valued for their nutritional content, providing nearly as much vitamin C per 100 grams as a crate of oranges. They are commonly used to combat colds, flu, and respiratory issues, and are consumed as marmalade, jam, tea, or juice. The harvest also serves as a vital source of income for the local economy in the region.
