Erzincan Chamber of Commerce launches digital protection for Tulum Cheese

The Erzincan Chamber of Commerce and Industry has launched a comprehensive digital monitoring initiative to protect the Erzincan Tulum Cheese brand from unauthorized use on e-commerce platforms and social media. This measure aims to prevent consumer deception and protect the reputation of local producers by identifying misleading listings that use the protected name or geographical indication emblem.

Erzincan Tulum Cheese was registered as a designation of origin in Turkey in 2001. In 2025, it was officially recorded in the European Union registry as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) by the European Commission. To qualify for the name, the cheese must be produced in Erzincan, primarily using Akkaraman sheep milk, and must undergo a maturation process of at least four months.

The monitoring program involves regular scans of online marketplaces and social media. When suspicious listings are identified, the Chamber will document them with screenshots and seller information to file complaints with relevant platforms. Additionally, the Chamber will notify the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Trade, and other authorities, and may issue legal notices to violators through attorneys.
