Erzincan farmers face crop damage from badger infestation

Farmers in Harmantepe village, located in the Çayırlı district of Erzincan, are facing significant crop damage due to a badger infestation. The animals are targeting sunflower and sugar beet fields, primarily during nighttime hours.

Local producers report that while they have previously dealt with bears and wild boars, the recent influx of badgers has created a new and serious challenge. Farmers have resorted to keeping night watches in their fields to protect their crops.

Because badgers are a protected species in Turkey, local farmers expressed uncertainty regarding how to implement preventative measures without violating regulations. They are calling on authorities to provide solutions and support to protect their agricultural production and the local economy.
