Erzincan salmon production reaches 18 international markets
Erzincan has emerged as a significant hub for trout and salmon fry production in Turkey, driven by the region's rich water resources. Facilities in the Sakaltutan area utilize stable water temperatures, optimal oxygen levels, and specific mineral compositions to support large-scale aquaculture.
The production process begins in hatcheries where fish are raised to approximately 10 grams before being moved to dams. Once they reach 250 grams, they are transferred to marine environments, where they are grown to roughly 4 kilograms. These fish are then marketed internationally as ‘Black Sea salmon’.
Approximately 90 percent of the production is exported to roughly 18 countries, including Russia, China, Vietnam, Japan, Germany, and the United Kingdom. To maintain international competitiveness, facilities are also conducting genetic research, including studies on feminization and sterilization of the fish.
