Erzincan tourism grows via Sohmarik Plateau and Taş Yolu

The Erzincan province in Turkey is seeing increased interest from nature enthusiasts and tourists due to its unique landscapes and historical sites.

Sohmarik Plateau, located in the Kemah district at an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters near the Munzur Mountains, has become a popular destination following social media exposure. The area is known for its diverse wildlife, including wild goats, brown bears, lynx, and wolves, as well as natural features like the Girlevik Waterfall and Otlukbeli Crater Lake. Due to its difficult access, it is often referred to as a ‘hidden paradise’ and serves as a site for camping, hiking, and photography.

In the Kemaliye district, the historic Taş Yolu (Stone Road) has emerged as a major route for adventure and nature tourism. Construction of the road began in 1870 and took 132 years to complete with local labor and state support. Spanning approximately 10 kilometers along the cliffs of the Karanlık Canyon, the route features 45 tunnels and sharp turns, offering dramatic views for travelers and photographers.
