Erzurum and Van show varying museum tourism trends in 2025
According to 2025 cultural heritage statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), Erzurum and Van have shown distinct trends in museum tourism.
In Erzurum, total museum visits reached 1,317,877, placing the city 11th in Turkey. A significant driver of this success was the private museum sector, which hosted 997,355 visitors, ranking 6th nationally. In contrast, visits to state-affiliated museums and archaeological sites ranked 16th in the country.
In Van, museum and archaeological site attendance rose by 11.8% to 308,593 visitors. However, museum card sales in the province fell by 9.7% to 74,038. This decline in card sales is attributed to the ongoing renovation of the Van Museum, which has been closed to the public.
