Erzurum Civil Society Platform calls for Sarıkamış route completion

The Erzurum Civil Society Platform (ESTP) has called for the urgent completion of the Akşar-Gaziler-Horasan road, a route used during the 1915 Sarıkamış Operation. ESTP President Abdulkerim Kavaz emphasized that the road holds both historical and strategic significance, noting that its completion would facilitate access to martyr shrines and shorten the transportation route to the Eastern Black Sea region by 50 kilometers compared to the Narman-Pasinler line.

Currently, work is ongoing on a 26-kilometer section, but the platform reports the route remains largely unusable for visitors. ESTP has urged the 12th Regional Directorate of Highways, politicians, and bureaucrats to take responsibility for the project.

Additionally, the platform is advocating for the revival of the Sarıkamış Martyrs Commemoration March. Originally established in 2004, the march has seen a decline in impact due to lack of coordination. ESTP requests that these national-scale commemorations be reorganized under the leadership of the Erzurum Governor's Office with the participation of various local institutions.
