Erzurum continues 500-year-old 1001 Hatim tradition

The 1001 Hatim tradition, a religious practice maintained in Erzurum for approximately 500 years, continued with a program in the Kümbet neighborhood of the Palandöken district. Led by Hacı Selami Aydın, this year's 11th iteration of the event saw the recitation of 2,658 hatims.

The tradition was originally established by Pir Ali Baba. During a prayer ceremony held at the Kümbet Neighborhood Mosque, Erzurum Provincial Mufti Yaşar Çapçı emphasized the importance of preserving this custom for future generations, noting it as a significant expression of the region's devotion to the Quran.
