Erzurum Court Archive Fire Controlled, Two Staff Treated

On 7 August 2026 a fire broke out in the archive basement of the Erzurum Court of Justice. A police officer reported the blaze at 18:46 and fire, police and medical units arrived at 18:53. The fire originated in an electrical panel, was extinguished quickly and was confined to a roughly 30 m² area. Only a few pre‑2014 case files stored in the closed‑down civil courts were damaged; all documents are backed up in the UYAP digital system.

Two staff members – night guard A. T. and neighbourhood guard M. T. – were exposed to smoke. Both received first‑aid on site, were taken to hospital for observation and were discharged in good health. Local officials, including Governor Aydın Baruş, inspected the scene and confirmed that the building is now secure. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.
