Erzurum health officials provide suicide prevention training for family physicians

The Erzurum Provincial Health Directorate has organized a specialized training program for family physicians titled ‘Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Support’. The initiative aims to strengthen primary healthcare services and enhance psychosocial well-being within the community.

During the program, participants focused on the early identification of individuals in high-risk groups and the implementation of effective, timely intervention methods. Psychologist Tuğba Yücel emphasized the strategic role of family physicians as the first point of contact for mental health issues, noting that their awareness is critical in preventing suicide risks.

The training included technical instruction on analyzing high-risk individuals, crisis management, communication techniques, and proper referral processes. Health officials stated that such field studies and training sessions will continue to improve the competencies of primary healthcare workers and increase the accessibility of mental health services.
