Erzurum historical WWI memorial identified by researcher

Researcher and author Taner Özdemir has highlighted a historical memorial located between the Muceldili and Taşkaynak villages in Erzurum. The site features a historical inscription protected by iron railings that dates back to World War I.

The inscription reads, ‘Mehmetçik from Tokat, martyred by Armenians in World War I, 1915’. Özdemir noted that while the area appears neglected and is increasingly obscured by growing vegetation and vines, the monument serves as a symbol of the resistance spirit and the historical connection between different fronts of the war.

Özdemir described the site as a piece of living history that connects the spirit of the Gallipoli campaign to the mountains of Eastern Anatolia, representing a shared national destiny through the various battlefields of the era.
