Pasin Victory commemorated on its 978th anniversary

Members of the Erzurum History Association gathered at Pasin Plain to commemorate the 978th anniversary of the Pasin Victory. Led by Association President H. Ömer Özden, the group visited the historic battlefield in the Pasinler district to hold a memorial program.

The ceremony included a moment of silence, the national anthem, and prayers led by historian Abdurrahman Zeynal for martyrs and veterans.

President Özden emphasized the historical significance of the Battle of Pasin, noting it was a major field battle between the Seljuk and Byzantine empires. He stated that the victory served as a crucial precursor to the Battle of Manzikert, effectively breaking the myth of Byzantine invincibility and opening the doors of Anatolia to the Turkish people. The association also expressed interest in establishing a monument at the site and increasing historical awareness through academic panels and symposiums.
