Erzurum Hosts Traditional Turkish Arts Exhibition at Yakutiye Medrese

The Erzurum Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism opened a Traditional Turkish Arts Exhibition in the historic Yakutiye Medrese. The show features nearly 100 pieces of calligraphy (hat), illuminated manuscript art (tezhip) and marbling (ebru) created by about 40 course participants.

Course instructor Sema Topal Akköçe explained that each artwork can require three to six months to complete and that tezhip work often uses 22‑carat gold, which is prepared with a gelatin‑water mixture before being applied to specially treated paper. Directorate head Ahmet Yer highlighted the exhibition’s role in passing Turkish cultural heritage to future generations, noting the importance of continuing traditional craft courses at the Aşık Sümani Cultural Center.

Visitors praised the intricate hand‑work, traditional motifs and gold embellishments on display.
