Erzurum municipality installs new traffic signs in Yakutiye

The Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality has implemented new traffic signage in the Yakutiye district following a protest by local shopkeepers. In the Muratpaşa neighborhood, specifically on Yeni Kapı Street, drivers—often guided by navigation systems—were frequently entering a three-way road in the wrong direction.

This issue caused damage to parked vehicles and created safety hazards as drivers attempted to reverse out of moving traffic. To draw attention to the problem, local merchants had taken the initiative to hang their own 'Wrong Way' sign on a lamp post.

In response to the situation, municipal teams removed the makeshift sign and replaced it with official 'No Entry' signs on both sides of the road. They also reorganized existing one-way signs that were previously difficult to see. Local merchant Kadir Kaya expressed gratitude for the official intervention, noting that the previous traffic violations had caused significant damage to vehicles in the area.
